When leaving

When you are leaving Poronperä on your last day, we kindly ask you to do the following:

  • Please don’t leave any food or cleaning supplies you brought.

  • Put your dirty dishes in the washing machine and turn it on. You can leave it running.

  • Take out the trash from the kitchen and bathroom to the outdoor garbage bin.

  • Collect used towels and leave them on the bathroom floor.

  • Turn off the lights, close windows, and ventilation windows. This is very important in wintertime!

  • Lock the front door leave the key to the key box and set the key box code to 0000.

Thank you very much for your visit and have a safe trip home!

heating, windows

  • You’ll find the air-source heat pump control on the hallway wall – feel free to adjust the cabin’s temperature from there.

  • If you change the bedroom radiator settings, we kindly ask you to return them to their original level before you leave. It is set to +21C.

  • And just a little reminder: please keep the windows closed during winter, as open windows use up a lot of extra energy.

  • In wintertime closing the windows is especially important in the sauna and bathroom areas. If a window is left open for a long time during freezing weather, the water pipes may freeze.

internet/wifi

  • Network: DNA-WIFI-6681

  • Password: yLe5hHb6

sustainability

  • This cabin is heated with electricity, supported by an air-source heat pump.

  • You can help us care for our nature and act sustainably by avoiding unnecessary water use and extra heating.

  • Especially in winter, energy consumption is very high in the North. To reduce it, please remember to close windows and doors so the warmth stays cozy inside the cabin.

trash and waste = recycling

  • Sort waste into bins under the kitchen sink, in the outdoor storage recycling bins, or into the bio-waste bin in the kitchen.

  • Returnable bottles and cans can be left in the recycling bin in the outdoor storage when you leave.

  • When departing, please take the trash to the waste shelter. It’s located 200 meters from the cabin (map on the wall), where you can recycle:

    • plastic packaging

    • cardboard packaging (e.g., cardboard, paperboard, and paper packaging)

    • metal packaging and small metal items

    • paper

    • bio-waste

campfire place & swimming

  • Located by the Petäjäjoki River, about 1 km from the cabin. A trail leads from the cabin, and a map is on the cabin wall. You can take a pic of that, but please don’t take the map with you.

  • At the campfire place there's laavu (lean-to-shelter). The laavu is shared with neighbors.

  • Firewood is usually stocked, and please leave the area clean for the next visitor.

  • Next to the laavu there's a pier with stairs to the Petäjäjoki river for swimming.

washing machine & drying closet

WASHING MACHINE
  • Plug in the power cord and turn the water valve counterclockwise to the "ON" position.

  • Add detergent and, if needed, fabric softener into the compartment.

  • The washing machine door is a little tight, so you might need to push it firmly to make sure it closes properly.

  • Select the program and spin speed, then start the machine by pressing the power button.

  • After the program, remember to turn the water valve off (clockwise), unplug the power cord, and leave the doors open.

DRYING CLOSET:
  • Set the drying time (1–4 hours) using the right-hand dial and adjust the temperature (0–70°C) using the left-hand dial.

sauna

  • Please always use a seat cover when using the sauna to keep it clean for the next guest.

  • To turn on the sauna's electric stove, press the power switch (O/I) located in the sauna's changing room. It will automatically turn off after 2 hours.

  • Do not cover the stove, or dry clothes or shoes in the sauna.

  • The sauna stove is not for cooking or grilling sausages – this could cause a fire hazard.

  • Throw some water on the stove and enjoy the steam (löyly in Finnish).

dishwasher

  • Place a dishwasher tablet or liquid inside the lid of the compartment and close it.

  • Turn on the water by pressing the white button at the kitchen faucet's base. A green light will turn on and blink during the program. The water will automatically turn off once the program is complete.

  • Important: Let the dishwasher run its full cycle before opening the door. Opening it too early may require a maintenance visit, which will incur an extra charge.

parking

  • There is plenty of parking space in the yard.

fireplace

  • Open the damper! You'll find the damper on the upper right side of the fireplace. That lever lets the smoke go up the chimney instead of into your living room! (By the way, we have this handy damper system in all Finnish fireplaces – it's a must for keeping the house warm.)

  • Start with a small fire. When lighting the fire, use small pieces of wood and let the fire start gently. Once you see the fire is burning well, you can add larger logs. If the fireplace hasn’t been used in a while, the chimney might be cold, so take it easy and give it time to warm up.

  • Air circulation vent! When lighting the fire, make sure the vent is in the vertical (upright ↑) position to allow proper airflow. After about an hour of burning, you can turn the vent to the horizontal (→) position to activate the fireplace's circulation feature and spread the warmth more evenly. But you can leave it in vertical (↑)position for the whole time.

  • Check the ash box. After enjoying the cozy warmth, take a peek at the ash box under the fireplace. If it’s full, empty it into the metal outdoor ash bin. This keeps your fireplace clean and ready for the next fire!

  • More firewood is in the cabin's outdoor storage. There’s also a pile along the cabin’s outer wall. If the wood is covered in snow, it’s best to brush it off and let it dry indoors for a while before using.

outdoor storage: firewood&
hobby equipments

  • The key to the main cabin door also fits the outdoor storage door.

  • A heated outdoor storage room is at your disposal, perfect for skis.

  • There is dry firewood, sleds, hobby equipment, and life jackets in the outdoor storage.

  •  After use, please return the equipment intact and clean to the places reserved for them.

SMOKING

  • Smoking is not allowed indoors.

  • If smoking outside, please dispose of cigarette butts in an ashtray.

boat

  • The boat keys and plug are hanging on the hallway hook during summer.

  • The oars are stored at the end of the garage.

  • Life jackets are in the outdoor storage.

  • Remember to insert the bottom plug before launching the boat and remove it after taking it out of the water.

  • After use, please pull the boat ashore.
